With albums Paranoid and Sunburnt, Post Orgasmic Chill, Wonderlustre, Black Traffic, and Anarchytecture, along with hit singles such as “Hedonism”, “Weak” and “She’s my Heroine”, Skunk Anansie embarked on their 25th year anniversary tour 25LIVE@25 with sell-out shows all over the UK.

On their tour, I managed to catch them first as they were headlining the final day of the 4-day Camper Calling Festival, a family festival set in the beautifully picturesque grounds of Ragley Hall.

After doing a brief walk around the grounds meeting the festival goers, Skin, Cass and Mark were on stage at approximately 21.30. Playing to a huge crowd that consisted of mainly people that remember their hits such as the previously mentioned “Weak” and “Hedonism”, there were younger members and surprisingly a lot of children.

The second show, was at Rock City in Nottingham. A drive of about 70 minutes for me – it was going to be worth it,

I got there in enough time to have a brief chat with Cass outside and then to enter a huge crowd in the gorgeous rock venue.

With a set list of 23 songs and 5 songs over 2 encores, the crowd were ready for the highlight of the night…

And then it happened… Skin burst onto the stage to thousands of screaming voices in a…. errrrr…. metallic/foil type of cape and headress – welcoming the crowd and straight into “Charlie Big Potato”.

Going through the setlist, singing her heart out, its truly evident that the vocal range quality that Skin portrayed was second to none – tone perfect.

A fantastic performance by Skin, Cass (bass guitarist), Ace (guitarist) and Mark Richardson (drums and percussion) was expected, and delivered.

One of the highlights was when Skin came off the stage and entered into the crowd, crowd surfing whilst still belting out her songs.

I do apologise for I’m not a reviewer, but normally a photographer by trade, and whatever words I use cannot even come close to describing this amazing performance in front of a packed out venue….. a truly amazing night of music by this iconic Britrock group.
